City Hall Park
Distance: 10.18 Km
Rådhusparken is located on the site of the former Aarhus Søndre Kirkegård, which functioned in the years 1818 - 1926.
Open and bright park
The largest part of the park is open with large trees, which are scattered in the lawn towards Frederiks Allé. The oldest of the trees date from the time of the cemetery. In particular, the linden alley in front of the town hall can be mentioned. In the month of March one can enjoy the overwhelming sight of flowering crocus in the lawns.
The park contains several sculptures
In the Town Hall Park there are several sculptures and in the southern part of the park a number of tombstones from the original cemetery have been collected. A special breathing space in the park is Rådhushaven, which is close to Rådhuset. It is a perennial garden that invites to stay and where the experience of flowers can be enjoyed.
Enjoy different vegetation
In 1999 it was converted into a bright and lush garden. All perennials and small trees were replaced. The shape of the garden and the paths in the garden, however, lie as they were laid out in the early 40s. The town hall garden consists primarily of beds with a bottom planting of perennials and spring onions. Towards the City Hall, a ridge of rhododendrons has been planted. Southern beech and magnolias are small trees that are overgrown in the beds.
Enjoy nature and relax
The garden is surrounded by large old linden trees as well as a single horse chestnut and a maple. The model for the converted garden is therefore the forest and its clearings. The perennials used are plants that belong to the forest floor. Leaves and flowers are, with few exceptions, kept in green, white and yellow.
The town hall park is protected in accordance with the conservation decision of 10 March 1995 for Aarhus Town Hall and surroundings. There is public access to the park around the clock.
