In the small museum Smikkeskrinet in Den Gamle By you can see and experience an absolutely unique collection of classic Danish jewelery from the 20th century.

The jewelry box is a permanent exhibition in Den Gamle By, which is a completely unique collection consisting of approx. 1000 of the best Danish silver jewelery from the period 1900-2000.

German couple from Berlin

It is a German couple from Berlin, Marion and Jorg Schwandt, who have been collecting the jewelery for 40 years. The collection creates an overview of the currents in 20th century jewelery art that are particularly Danish. That is, the simple, the functional and with a focus on light and reflection.

The collection includes various jewelry ranging from brooches, necklaces, hat pins and combs to shoelaces, necklaces and finger rings.

Well-known jewelry designers and silversmiths

The jewelry is designed by Georg Jensen and Kay Bojesen, among others. Experts in the field describe the exhibition as "completely unique in Denmark as well as abroad". Many of the most famous jewelery designers and silversmiths are represented with masterpieces in the collection. This applies, for example, to Mogens Ballin, Thorvald Bindesbøll, Marie Christiansen, Kay Bojesen, Torun Bülow-Hübe, Bent Gabrielsen, Uwe Helmuth Moltke, Evald Nielsen, Svend Weihrauch and Georg Jensen.

The game by

Museum director from Den Gamle By Thomas Bloch Ravn says that back in 2011 the museum received a message that it might be possible to acquire a distinguished collection of Danish jewelery art for Den Gamle By. A collection if just it will not be possible to recreate. The inquiry came from a connoisseur in the field, who thought that the collection would fit well with the Old Town's good, albeit not so well-known collections within the finer Danish art industry.

A million donation from the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation made it possible to acquire the collection and build the underground jewelry box, where the collection will now be exhibited permanently.
