To visit The Old Town (Den GAmle BY)is like stepping into a small Danish town in 16-, 17- and 1800s with houses, homes, shops and workshops. All brick, timber, tiles, furniture, blankets and plates are original and moved from cities from all over Denmark. Two new neighborhoods is under construction, showing history of the 1900s. Tivoli Freedom is Aarhus' theme park located within walking distance from the city of Aarhus and surrounded by beautiful Marselisborg forest. You will find more than 4 slides, 40 rides, stalls, games and playgrounds. There is something for everyone, both children and adults.
The Women's Museum in Denmark is national specialist museum, whose goal is to explore, build collections and knowledge of women's life and work in the Danish cultural history. The Women's Museum emerged as grassroots movement in the early 1980s in response to the new women's movement and was nationally recognized by the Finance in 1991. The Women's Museum is one of the few of its kind in the world and has achieved international status as a model museum.
Aarhus City Hall has celebrated its 70th anniversary, but still stands out as a modern and functionalist building. The town hall is covered with Norwegian marble, it represents Danish design and architecture at its best. Aarhus City Hall was designed by the internationally renowned architect Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller and was built in 1937 - 1941. Aarhus Cathedral (St. Clement's Church) located at Store Torv and Bispetorv in Aarhus Centres are the main church in Aarhus Diocese. The church has about 1,200 seats, and the building, which is the longest and highest church in Denmark, is 93 feet long. The tower is 96 meters high. If you want to book a tour or even visit the cathedral with a group, contact the church office to book an appointment. Guided tours of the Cathedral both inside and outside the church's opening hours - except if there are religious ceremonies or concerts.
Vadestedet is the popular name for the area from the shoppingcenter Magasin to Europaplads. Vadestedet is the place in Aarhus, where you will find most cafes and nightclubs. They lie side by side all the way along the river, and on a nice summer day it is packed with people.
The route around the lake Årslev Engsø alternates between vantage points with a clear view of the lake and large meadow areas. On the south side, the trail leads through a small piece of private forest and along the disused Hammel railroad past the manor Constantinsborg.
Visit the Bazar West in the Aarhus suburb Gellerup and step into a cultural melting pot. It is a commercial mecca with a huge variety of fruits and vegetables, bread and meat. You will also find cafes, restaurants and gift shops.
