Den Gamle By has recreated an entire district starting from the year 1974. The district is a journey through time, where you can visit your own, your parents' or your grandparents' history and step into everyday life as it looked in 1974.

See what the hairstyles looked like, what clothes and creams you could buy, and step into apartments that might look like the ones your parents lived in. In the neighborhood patisserie, you can taste the cakes you ate back then.

Bring the whole family and have your mom and dad tell you and your siblings about their time in the seventies. About toys, bikes, idols, cars and everything else you would like to know. Take the chance and head to the Old Town and find out what it really is your parents are talking about when they remember that time.

Have you been young yourself in the 70s?

A walk in the 1974s neighborhood can be both a fun, strange and melancholy journey if you have experienced the seventies yourself. Go back to when you were a child, young or just younger, and feel the feeling of a time that is both close and very far away.

Do you remember, for example, that orange and brown were fashion colors? Do you remember the big, heavy televisions with a tiny screen - and do you remember what DR broadcast in them? And what about the collectives, the Napoleonic cakes and the Niveacremen?

Tårnborg

In the 1974 district you can visit Tårnborg, which is a large corner house with three apartments, where you can look inside the nuclear family, experience the collective, see how the lone school inspector lived and shop in shops from the 70s. Also, do not miss a visit to the radio shop, which plays the hottest tunes of the time.

The house in Havnegade

Experience the same atmosphere as at the House in Christianshavn when you visit the House in Havnegade. Here you will find six apartments and get an insight into both private homes, workshops and backyards. And finally visit the jazz bar Bent J, where you can feel the authentic atmosphere from the former tavern.
