Discover the joy of playing and being a child when you move around the Toy Museum's cozy old house in Den Gamle By.

The Toy Museum in Den Gamle By exhibits 5.000 toys from as far back as the 1600th century and up to the last century.

Fine porcelain dolls and steadfast tin soldiers

Explore and be captivated by everything from porcelain dolls to tin soldiers, and from doll kitchens to steam engines. The oldest toys date all the way back to the 1600th century. Throughout the ages, the toy has had different roles in relation to boys and girls.

In the past, girls' toys, for example, were supposed to prepare girls for a future as mothers and housewives. Therefore, you can see clear traces in the toys of contemporary changes, and the museum thus reflects in the finest way how toys have had different kinds of functions over time, e.g. to prepare the children for their later roles in the adult world.
