Havreballe Forest

Distance: 10.11 Km

Havreballe Forest is the northernmost part of the Marselisborg Forests. With a location very close to the city, the forest is easy to get to and a popular destination for Aarhusians' Sunday walk. With beautiful trees and lakes, Havreballe Skov is a lovely place to walk, run or cycle.

Obstacle course for both children and adults

Behind the trees you will find an obstacle course that challenges your balance and coordination skills and at the same time strengthens leg and arm muscles. Spice up your walk or run by making the obstacle course part of your trip. The secluded location of the track means that you have a semi-private space where you are not put on display while you play with your motor skills and challenge your strength and flexibility. If you come from the parking lot at Ceres Park & Arena, you can see references to the obstacle course on the erected poles.

A look into freedom

Havreballe Forest, and the rest of Marselisborg Forests, belonged until 1896 to Marselisborg Estate. Until then, the public only had limited access to the forests, which were fenced and provided with links for the roads. On Sundays, people were allowed to enter the nearest part of Havreballe Skov. This area was therefore named "Freedom", which today has given its name to the amusement park Tivoli Freedom, which is opposite Havreballe Skov.

An ideal place for large family outings

In Havreballe Skov you will find a campfire hut, which is ideal for picnics and family excursions if you would like the opportunity to take shelter under a roof. Close by you will find Kalvehaven, which is an open grass area with two football goals, where you can play a game of football, round ball and other more space-consuming activities.

Under a large, old beech tree close to the campfire hut and Kalvehaven you will find a campfire site surrounded by three large stones, which idyllically lie next to a large, open clearing where you can bake pancakes, puff pastry or toast marshmallows. Remember to burn firewood yourself or collect dry twigs and branches in the forest.

You can book for free the campfire og the fire cabin through Aarhus Municipality's website.

Take the dog into the woods

Havreballe Skov is one of the official dog forests in Aarhus, where it is allowed to walk your dog without a leash. However, always under the condition that it is under full control. If you are in doubt as to whether your dog wants to play, it must always be on a leash, even if you are in a dog park. In this way, you help to ensure that all dogs and guests have a good experience. The dog forests are marked with signage. Read more about taking your dog into the forest here .
