Position-Solbjerg Sø

Distance: 10.94 Km

Stilling-Solbjerg Sø is known for having a rich bird and plant life, which is why a visit gives you and your family the opportunity to get in close contact with nature.

Stilling-Solbjerg Sø is located approx. 5 km northeast of Skanderborg. The lake is approx. 7 km long and stretches between the two cities that gave it its name.

Activities at the lake

The lake is a good starting point for a bike ride if you want to enjoy some of the beautiful nature of the Søhøjlandet and at the same time want to avoid the biggest hills. The trip around the lakes is approximately 20 kilometers and along the way you can experience Pilbrodalen og Pale mind og Wittved churches.

If you are fresh, you can jump into the lake from Stilling badebro, which is located at the western end of the lake at Position Beach.

Both in Stilling and Solbjerg there are common areas with paths, benches and the like. which makes it easy to get close to the lake.

History and treasure hunting

Despite its considerable length, the lake is in most places only a few hundred meters wide and nowhere is it wider than 1 km. It lies between large hills in the East Jutland moraine landscape, which by the lake and around Pilbrodalen contains many of the variations that a moraine landscape offers - both in relation to beauty, wildlife, plant life and geology.

Stilling-Solbjerg lake is also a fabled treasure lake. When Swedish soldiers during the Torstensson War (1643 - 1645) besieged Skanderborg Castle, it is said that Danish mercenaries cut a hole in the ice on Solbjerg Lake to hide the chest of silver coins that Christian IV's generals brought out to the Danish forces. The hope was that the Swedes would not find the shiny valuables that lay on the bottom of the lake.
