Jeksendalen

Distance: 6.40 Km

The area around Jeksendalen is part of a larger meltwater valley that stretches from Aarhus to the west and southwest to Solbjerg lake. The whole area used to be of great importance to East Jutland's industry, which was largely driven by water turbines.

Water mills have existed for several thousand years, and have certainly been used in production in Denmark since the Middle Ages. The water mills took on an even more central function during the industrialization of the 1800th century. Where the mill power was used to produce, among other things, grain, paper and much more.

Jeksendalen was protected in 1979, and in the area there are rivers, meadows, forests and cultivated land. Today, this diverse landscape is a good habitat for wild mammals and birds - and a good starting point for a hike, where you can consider the varied animal and plant life.

The population of game and small birds is closest, where different types of landscape meet. It is therefore not only during the breeding season but also the rest of the year that a rich wildlife unfolds in the area. Kingfishers and water starlings, which are otherwise rare, are two of the species that can be seen along the river all winter.
