The Occupation Museum in Aarhus 1940-45
Distance: 10.79 Km
Everyday life during the occupation
The exhibition tells about the different daily life during the occupation with scarcity, blackout and rationing and provides insight into the fear that prevailed among the population for five years with propaganda, illegal magazines, sabotage and Nazi terror against the civilian population.
The occupation in Aarhus
There is a focus on special events in Aarhus, such as the successful bombing of the Gestapo's headquarters, the port disaster and the often dangerous work of the resistance movement. The museum also houses beautiful collections of military equipment and an original Gestapo cell.
Gestapo headquarters
The museum is located in the former Gestapo headquarters. The building, which dates from 1857, originally housed the town hall and from 1941 the police station. When the police were detained in the autumn of 1944, and the Gestapo's headquarters at Aarhus University bombed, the Gestapo moved in.
