Marselisborg Castle is Queen Margrethe's summer and Christmas residence, beautifully located by the Memorial Park in Aarhus. Marselisborg Castle was built in 1902 and was the people's wedding gift to King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine.

Unique location with beautiful scenery and views

Marselisborg Castle has an exquisite location with an unobstructed view of the sea and forest, while at the same time the castle is set back from the surroundings. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful castle garden in the English style, with small lakes, a rose garden, a herb garden and a large number of works of art, among others. sculptures of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik. The castle garden at Marselisborg Castle is open to the public all year round, especially when the royal family resides at the castle. 

Architecture with distinctiveness

Marselisborg Castle was built according to drawings by the royal building inspector, Hack Kampman. The castle opens with an entrance to the west and two miniature towers, which are also a motif on the Customs House building in the center of Aarhus, which is inspired by the city coat of arms for Aarhus. The building is decorated with motifs from the sea all around and in the window cutouts you will find motifs of seagulls, and in the main wooden door are beautifully carved seashells accompanied by a fish above the door.

Castle garden and rose garden

The beautifully planted Castle garden, which also includes the Queen's rose garden, is open to visitors when the royal family is not staying at the palace.

Change of guard

When the royal family is at Marselisborg Castle, there is a change of guard with the Royal Life Guard every day at 12.00.
